Craving Something Foreign?

25 07 2007

Maybe you were traveling and tried a local delicacy that you can’t find back home and can’t figure out how to make. Or maybe you’re an ex-pat, enjoying the local cuisine but craving that comfort food from back home. Well, no there is no need to go without. There’s a new website that matches travelers with cravers. It’s called BringSome and the concept is quite simple. You place an ad saying you can bring something or an ad saying you want something. Others respond and hopefully you get that delicacy or guilty pleasure you’ve really been missing. Of course, it is not limited to food items, but my guess is that is what it will mostly be used for (though who knows, maybe it will become a cheap way for people to get items to the family members living abroad or someone will find some completely wacky use for it that the site developers never even considered). So far the pickings are kinda slim since the site is pre-beta and not many people have signed up. But a quick poke around indicated that I could get something from Oaxaca delivered to me in Vancouver by the end of August (at a 10% commission…people can set their price for performing the service). Not bad….hmmm….some Oaxacan chocolate might be good since I won’t be down in Mexico before the cold rain starts up here in Vancouver (Mexican hot chocolate is great!). (thanks Gridskipper!)
