Click on the link below and look at the spinning dancer image. Stare long enough and she’ll change directions. How do I know it is not a trick? Because after a few minutes I could figure out ways to trick my brain into getting her to change directions and could do it at will.

Swedish Meets Moroccan

23 07 2007

Far too many months after moving to Vancouver, I finally made it out to the Ikea to pick up a few things for the apartment. The trip was about as exciting as you would expect it to be. One hour or so to get there, three hours in the Ikea itself (despite the fact that I was certain that I could do it one hour since I knew exactly what I needed to get) and an hour to get back. Thank god for the Skytrain, it makes it much faster since you avoid all street traffic. However, my procrastination in furnishing my apartment and the intricacies of getting to surbaban box stores when you don’t have a car are not the point of this blog entry. Rather it is to share a picture that demonstrates just how popular Moroccan things have become, including the tajine. I’ve seen tajines made by a French cookware company (insanely expensive and most definitely not pottery) and now Ikea has one (called the Stil). Picture below. Again, not pottery. I wonder how many people who buy it know where it comes from and the type of food usually cooked in it.
